Description
The Granular Activated Carbon (GAC), often referred to as a UDF filter, is a crucial stage in any high-quality multi-stage water purification system. Crafted from raw organic materials like coconut shells, the carbon is intensely heated to create a massive porous surface area.
Features
-
Superior De-chlorination: Effectively extracts residual free chlorine from municipal water supplies.
-
Taste & Odor Neutralizer: Eliminates chemical smells and the unpleasant "pool" taste caused by chlorine and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
-
Organic Contaminant Removal: Adsorbs various organic compounds, making water safer for drinking, cooking, and manufacturing.
-
High Porosity: Engineered for maximum contact time between water and carbon media for deep chemical extraction.
-
Versatile Application: Ideal for residential, commercial, and industrial settings where high-quality water polishing is required.
How It Works
-
The Adsorption Process: Unlike a sediment filter that "catches" particles, GAC works through adsorption. Chemicals and organic pollutants stick to the massive internal surface area of the carbon granules as water flows through the cartridge.
-
The Result: Water that is free from the harsh chemicals used during municipal treatment, leaving you with refreshing, "bottled-quality" water at your tap.

Maintenance
GAC cartridges are not reusable or washable.
-
Replacement Interval: Replace every 6 to 12 months or when the rated gallon capacity is reached.
-
Warning Sign: Replace immediately if you notice a return of chemical tastes or chlorine odors.
-
Installation Tip: Always install after a sediment filter (PP or String Wound) to prevent the carbon pores from becoming clogged by dirt and sand.

Compatibility
The GAC filter is an essential component for:
-
Under-Counter Systems: Multi-stage units (usually Stage 2).
-
Whole-House Filtration: 2-Stage and 3-Stage Big Blue POE systems.
-
Reverse Osmosis (RO): Pre-treatment to protect the sensitive RO membrane from chlorine damage.
