Saltcor Grade A Salt is a high-purity crystalline salt specifically processed for the regeneration of ion-exchange water softeners. For a water softener to function, it must "recharge" its resin beads using a brine solution. This Grade A salt dissolves consistently to create a high-quality brine that effectively strips hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) from your softener resin, ensuring your system continues to deliver soft, scale-free water throughout your home or factory.

What Does It Do?

In a water softening system, the salt does not filter the water directly. Instead:

• Brine Formation: The salt dissolves in the brine tank water to create a saturated salt solution.

• Regeneration: During the "backwash" or regeneration cycle, this brine is drawn into the resin vessel.

• Ion Exchange: The salt (sodium) displaces the captured calcium and magnesium ions from the resin beads.

• Restoration: The hardness minerals are flushed down the drain, and the resin is "recharged" and ready to soften water again.

Good to Know

• Corrosive Nature: Salt and brine are naturally corrosive and will cause metal components to rust. Ensure salt is contained strictly within the FRP Brine Tank and keep the surrounding floor area clean and dry.

• Storage Tip: Keep the salt inside the original woven bag until needed. Store in a dry place to minimize moisture absorption and clumping.

• Cleaner Results: Using high-purity salt like Saltcor Grade A prevents the "salt bridging" or "mushing" often caused by lower-quality table salts or rock salts.

Maintenance

• Monitoring: The primary maintenance task is ensuring your brine tank never runs out of salt. If the tank is empty, your water will remain hard.

• Replenishment: Add more salt when the level in the brine tank drops below 1/4 full.

• Consumption: Salt is a consumable. The frequency of purchase depends entirely on your local water hardness levels and your daily water volume usage.
